Video File Size Calculator — Bitrate and Upload Time

Estimate the size of a short video or a longer export before rendering it. The calculator combines video and audio bitrates and shows the ideal upload time for the connection speed you enter.

Calculations run in your browser. No account or API key is needed.

Ideal upload time: 24.38 seconds
Excludes container overhead and platform processing time.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the video duration in seconds.

  2. Use the average video bitrate in Mbps and audio bitrate in kbps from your export settings.

  3. Enter upload speed to estimate transfer time, then compare different export settings.

Bits, bytes and file size

File size is duration × total bitrate ÷ 8. Audio kbps is converted to Mbps before adding it to the video stream. A 60-second clip at 8 Mbps video plus 128 kbps audio is approximately 60.96 MB, or 58.14 MiB, before container overhead.

Treat transfer time as a lower bound

At a steady 20 Mbps upload speed, that example takes about 24.38 seconds to transfer. Real uploads can take longer because bandwidth fluctuates and connections have overhead. Variable bitrate exports may differ from their target average. Codec choice, frame rate and picture complexity affect the bitrate needed for quality; this estimate does not judge that quality.

Common questions

Why are MB and MiB different?

One MB is 1,000,000 bytes; one MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. Different applications can display the same file using different units.

Does this include platform processing time?

No. Upload transfer and the platform’s later processing are separate. There is also no allowance for container overhead.
