Word & Character Counter — Unicode, Chinese & Emoji

Measure a draft, caption or prompt with counts that explain what is being counted. Choose its language, then compare words, visible characters and Unicode code points instead of treating every symbol as one byte.

Calculations run in your browser. No account or API key is needed.

  1. Paste the text you want to measure.

  2. Select the language used in the text.

  3. Run the counter and use the metric that matches your writing limit.

Words are not always separated by spaces

English usually provides visible word boundaries, while Chinese and Japanese often do not. This tool uses language-aware browser segmentation. Word boundaries can vary between browser versions, especially for names and recently coined terms.

Emoji explain the character difference

An emoji family can look like one character while containing several Unicode code points. Grapheme counts follow visible clusters and include spaces and line breaks. The separate whitespace-free total excludes those blank clusters. None of these figures is an AI token count.

Common questions

Will this match every social platform?

No. Platforms may count links, emoji or Unicode units differently. Compare the relevant count here and verify the final text in the destination editor.

Can I count mixed-language text?

Yes. Select the main language. Segmentation still handles mixed scripts, but a specialized editorial convention may produce a different word total.
